The American Immigration Council does not endorse or oppose candidates for elected office. We aim to provide analysis regarding the implications of the election on the U.S. immigration system.

Are you an attorney looking for a way to provide pro bono legal support to people working on their immigration cases? Or someone who could volunteer as an interpreter for those attorneys?

Consider joining the Immigration Justice Campaign. We give volunteer attorneys all the help they need to take on immigration cases—whether or not they’ve ever worked on one before. Here’s how it works:

  • We will reach out to set up a brief welcome call to get to know you and explain more about the program.
  • We will match you with someone who is looking for representation.
  • One of our staff attorneys will work with you throughout the lifetime of the case, providing you with dedicated mentorship and all the resources you need to provide quality representation for the client.

Our attorney volunteers come to us from all types of legal backgrounds. Some are fresh out of law school, some practice law unrelated to immigration, and some have decades of experience. Many people choose to volunteer with the Immigration Justice Campaign in part because they are looking to learn how to practice immigration law. Our model was designed to give attorneys from any type of legal background the knowledge, skills, and mentorship they need to effectively represent clients.

The clients our attorneys represent would otherwise be navigating the system on their own. Right now, we are working with clients who are in immigration detention, as well as LGBTQ asylum seekers outside of detention.

We are also seeking volunteer interpreters. You don’t need to have a legal background to be an interpreter. You can apply on our website. We are frequently in need of volunteers who speak Spanish or Arabic, and we encourage speakers of any language to apply.

We also provide regular advocacy opportunities for volunteers and members of the public. If you’d like to receive targeted and strategic ways to message your elected officials and take other actions in support of immigration rights, join our email list.

However you participate, we hope to work with you soon in the Immigration Justice Campaign. With attacks on immigrants and their rights increasing every day, we need all the help we can get.
