The Associated Press reports that President Obama has once again told President Felipe Calderón of Mexico that he is committed to immigration reform. President Calderón, however, understands that the economy is Obama’s number one priority and acknowledges that “fixing the U.S. economy is the best thing the American president can do for Mexico.”
Calderón also told the AP on Thursday that “he doesn’t want to be a president who sees the best of his people crossing the border each day. But without reform, he says stopping illegal migration will be impossible.”
In a meeting of the two presidents earlier this year, President Obama “underscored his commitment to working with Congress to fix the broken U.S. immigration system and fostering safe, legal and orderly migration.”
